Like all the budget airlines, Easyjet are also constantly changing the rules and allowances when it comes to baggage/luggage allowances. We will explain in simple terms what all of that means for you. When airlines talk about luggage there are two types; cabin luggage and hold luggage.
Easyjet Cabin Luggage
Cabin luggage is a piece of luggage that you can bring onto the aircraft with you and place in the overhead locker or underneath the seat in front of you.
Small Cabin Bag
Any passenger can bring on one small cabin bag per person. There is a maximum size of 45 x 36 x 20 cm (including any handles and wheels) This bag can weigh up to 15Kg.
This is classed as a small cabin bag and it is a pretty small bag designed for a short trip. This includes small trolley cases, a rucksack, laptop bag, handbag etc.
It is actually really difficult to get 15 Kg weight into a small bag like this. So although the weight sounds generous, the size of the bag is really small. 45 x 36 x 20 (17.72" x 14.17" x 7.87")
The bag we would recommend is the Cabin Max Metz 30 Litre Carry On Backpack 45 x 36 x 20 cm which is suitable for Wizz air and Easyjet underseat.
Check Amazon UK for Availability - Average UK Price £35 - comes in a wide variety of colours.
Large Cabin Bag
There is also an option to bring on a larger cabin bag as well as the small one mentioned above. There is a maximum size of 56 x 45 x 25 cm (including any handles and wheels) This bag can weigh up to 15Kg and needs to be able to fit in the overhead locker.
There are 3 ways of being able to do this:
- Select an Up Front or Extra Leg room seat (included)
- Book and pay for a large cabin bag (From £5.99)
- Are an Easyjet Plus cardholder or have booked a FLEXI fare
The bag we would recommend is the FLYMAX 55x35x20 4 Wheel Super Lightweight Cabin Luggage Suitcase which is suitable for Easyjet check-in luggage.
Check Amazon UK for Availability - Average UK Price £35 - comes in a wide variety of colours.
The maximum number of cabin luggage is 2 per person (one small and one large cabin bag)

Easyjet Cabin Luggage FAQ
How strict are Easyjet with cabin luggage?
They are fairly strict like most budget airlines. It can also be very random and you can be asked at anytime to measure or weigh cabin luggage. If the bag is too large there are charges and it will also be placed in the hold.
Is your cabin luggage guaranteed to be able to take onboard?
With the small cabin bag you can bring it on board as it has to be able to fit under the seat in front of you. With the larger cabin bag it depends on how busy the flight is. Their aircraft can hold 70 bags in the overhead lockers and Easyjet do this on a first come first serve basis. When that limit is reached then the bag will be put into the hold free of charge but you will have to pick it up at the baggage carousel at the arriving airport.
What fees will you be charged in your cabin luggage is too large?
The fee for any bag (per item) brought to the airport that is over a customer’s small cabin bag allowance which is a maximum size of 45 x 36 x 20 cm will be placed in the hold.
You will also be charged an ‘oversized large cabin bag airport bag fee’. This is currently £24 in 2022
Fee for any bag (per item) brought to the airport that is over the maximum size large cabin bag allowance 56 x 45 x 25 cm. The bag will be placed in the hold.
You will also be charged an ‘oversized large cabin bag airport bag fee’. This is currently £48 in 2022
Can you bring a handbag and small cabin bag?
Strictly speaking a handbag counts as the small cabin bag. Most times you will be able to carry both, but you are really at the whim of the Easyjet staff. Our advice is to make sure that if you are taking both that the handbag will fit inside the small cabin bag as some of their staff cab be quite fussy about this.
Easyjet Hold Luggage
Hold luggage is luggage that will not go on board with you and you have to check in and then pick it up on the passenger belt at the airport. All hold luggage on Easyjet has to be paid for.
Each passenger (including children) can buy up to 3 hold bags. A standard hold bag is 23Kg and you can then buy extra weight in 3 Kg amounts (£12 per 3 Kg) up to a maximum of 32 Kg per bag.
Each bag has a maximum size of 275 cm (length + width + height) When you make your booking there are three choices:
- 15 Kg bag - ideal size for a short break - from £6.99 - Fee varies depending on the route selected, flight and time of booking.
- 23 Kg standard bag - ideal for a 1-2 week break per passenger - from £9.49 - Fee varies depending on the route selected, flight and time of booking.
- up to 32 Kg if you like to pack a lot of things
